The TOL Series is a line of extreme pressure (EP) gear oils formulated for enclosed gear systems operating under heavy load and shock conditions. This product range covers ISO VG 68 to ISO VG 460 viscosity grades, developed for industrial equipment where standard lubricants cannot maintain a consistent protective film under mechanical stress.
This gear oil series is engineered for heavy-duty reducers, crushers, and stamping presses. It also applies to other enclosed gear drives, conveyors, and industrial transmission systems that run under continuous heavy loads or intermittent impact loads. The formulation is designed for use in commercial and industrial facilities with standard gearbox configurations.
In heavy-duty reducers, crushers, and stamping presses, gear teeth are subject to high torque and sudden shock impacts. Under these conditions, standard lubricating fluids can be displaced from gear tooth surfaces, resulting in direct metal-to-metal contact. This contact leads to surface damage such as micro-pitting and scoring, which reduces gear service life and increases maintenance downtime. The TOL Series is formulated to address these operating conditions with a specialized additive package.
The TOL Series uses highly refined base oils blended with extreme pressure anti-wear additives, formulated for demanding industrial operating environments.
The formulation creates a durable protective oil film on gear tooth surfaces. This film reduces direct metal contact under load conditions, helping to prevent micro-pitting, scoring, and surface wear on gear teeth. The maximum non-seize load (Pb value) ranges from 86 kg to 96 kg across the viscosity grades, with higher viscosity grades delivering higher load capacity.
The formulation includes anti-foam additives that reduce foam formation caused by high-speed gear rotation. Reduced foam supports consistent lubrication delivery and helps prevent fluid overflow from gearbox housings, supporting steady equipment operation during continuous running cycles.
The base oil and additive package provide resistance to thermal breakdown at elevated operating temperatures. This resistance slows the formation of oil sludge and varnish deposits, extending oil service life and lengthening drain intervals compared to conventional gear oils.
ISO VG Grade | Specific Gravity (@15°C) | Max Non-Seize Load (Pb, kg) | Flash Point (°C) | Pour Point (°C) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
TOL 68 | 0.890 | 86 | 220 | -21 |
TOL 100 | 0.893 | 87 | 220 | -21 |
TOL 150 | 0.895 | 87 | 220 | -21 |
TOL 220 | 0.900 | 89 | 226 | -21 |
TOL 320 | 0.910 | 92 | 226 | -19 |
TOL 460 | 0.968 | 96 | 232 | -9 |
Selecting the appropriate viscosity grade depends on equipment load, operating speed, and ambient temperature.
Lower viscosity grades (TOL 68, TOL 100, TOL 150) suit medium-load, higher-speed gear systems operating in moderate to cool ambient conditions.
Mid-range grade TOL 220 is designed for general heavy-duty enclosed gearboxes with balanced load and speed requirements.
Higher viscosity grades (TOL 320, TOL 460) are intended for equipment with very high loads and shock loads, such as large stamping presses and heavy crushers. These grades form a thicker fluid film to absorb impact forces.
Large stamping presses generate high instantaneous shock loads during operation. Higher viscosity grades provide a thicker fluid cushion and higher non-seize load capacity. This helps protect gear teeth from pitting and fracture damage caused by repeated impact forces.
